"Look at a tree, a flower, a plant. Let your awareness rest upon it. How still they are, how deeply rooted in Being. Allow nature to teach you stillness." ―Eckhart Tolle | This weekend I’m camping the gorgeous Lake Raven. This lake is tucked inside a vast national forest with towering majestic pines―all, seemingly, rooted in Being. I come here seeking stillness and Eckhart was right: Mother Nature is a perfect guru.

"We do not inherit the planet from our ancestors, we borrow it from our childern." ―Native American Saying

I really love how Tulum is so attuned with nature. The hotels are off the grid, meaning the electricity at night is powered by that day’s wind and sunlight. The water is sourced from filtered rainwater and the showers are outside under the stars and moonlight. Even the compost toilets lose the 1st-world stigma of uncleanliness because you’re so aligned with Mother Earth. The energy here is a reminder of your tribal roots and they were right: we didn’t inherit the planet from our ancestors, we’re borrowing it from our children.

"We are all visitors to this time and place. We are just passing through. Our purpose here is to observe, to learn, to grow, to love… and then we return home." ―Aboriginal proverb

After three weeks of yoga, meditation and mindful living in Tulum, I return home in a higher vibrational and conscious state. Along the way I became best friends with myself as well as met many beautiful life-long friends. I observed, I learned, I grew, I loved, and now I return home. Renewed, aligned and focused, I’m ready to continue my journey towards the light.

One year ago today my sweet dear mother passed away. How fitting she left on All Saints’ Day ― she was a saint to her family and friends. From the more than half a dozen family members she brought over and employed from the Philippines, to several of her friend’s children she’d put through college, she led a life of simplicity so that she could give all that she had.

I miss the way she would cut fresh mangos, to the way she would tailor my clothes, to even the calls for technical support. No other soul could put me at ease the way she did.

She’s why I love practicing yoga in nature ― I feel so close to her when I’m one with Mother Earth. She always points me towards the light.

She was my first love and my first heart break… But nothing on Earth can separate us.
Not time, Not space…
Not even death
will ever separate you
from your mother…
You carry her inside of you. <3 (at Tulum Beach)

"The best we can do…in response to our incomprehensible and dangerous world, is to practice holding equilibrium internally - no matter what insanity is transpiring out there." ―Elizabeth Gilbert (Eat, Pray, Love)

One of my goals during my month in Tulum was to practice holding my equilibrium internally though my #meditation practice and externally through my #handstand practice. After a few private sessions with a handstand guru and three weeks of practice, I’m near my goal! Handstands aren’t only a lot of #fun, but they’re also a phenomenal heart-opener that allows you to let go of fear. They allow you to #trust yourself and connect with your breath all in the #present now. Handstands have a spontaneous and nostalgic child-like quality that remind you that life shouldn’t be so serious and that you should be more #playful.

Here, I’m testing my #equilibrium and playfulness by floating to handstand after a short meditation. I’m practicing in the lovely open-air Yoga Shala studio and hotel in the #jungle of #Tulum. (at Yoga Shala Tulum)
